Thought you might be interested to know that, according to the May
29,2000 AutoWeek magazine news item on page 8, Saab is slated to produce
the next 9-3 for calendar-year 2002, which will include a wagon in
addition to the current offerings. What caught my eye is that in
mid-2002 an entirely new Saab model is also scheduled, a hybrid between
an SUV and a minivan. The next generation 9-5 is due to roll out in
2004.

I have read for years in car magazines of Saab's interest in building an
SUV or minivan, seen photos or blurbs about prototypes Saab engineers
had proposed, etc., but sensed that Saab lacked the funding to bring
some of its creative ideas to fruition. Perhaps linking Saab within GM
will give Saab engineers a platform on which to build. The SUV, for
example, is to be based on the same one used for the Pontiac Aztek and
the Buick Rendezvous, according to AutoWeek.
