According to a recent posting, 'Fact of life with a Saab: head job every
50K. If you beat the 50K mile mark, keep looking over your shoulder....'
Don't be too quick to generalize from individual cases. For every such
negative experience, there are likely to be many others who did not write
because they had no complaints. For example, in 26 years of driving SAAB's,
including mostly turbo's driven well beyond 100k, I have NEVER blown a head
gasket. I fully enjoy the turbo boost, but I have never let one overheat,
and I am a fanatic about maintenance. Even among friends and families with
SAAB's, I know of only one blown head gasket, and that was a case of
continuing to drive while overheated. This is not to say that it can't
happen, but it is not a 'fact of life with a SAAB.' We need statistics, not
individual anecdotes, to determine whether or not SAAB heads are more
fragile than those of other makes.
