I can't think of any way that transmission oil can burn unless the
transmission gets too hot and it burns in the transmission. I would
guess that if the products of oil combustion are coming out the
tailpipe, it is engine oil that is burning. Could it be that a small
amount of transmission oil was spilled and is burning from the exhaust
manifold? Alternately, could a small amount of engine oil have been
spilled and be burning from some hot surface? Is the engine-oil level
dropping on the dipstick? If so, it is probably either leaking out
somewhere or blowing by the piston rings. Did you change the oil
filter? Could it have been cross-threaded causing a leak?

Happy detective work! WBN
