For what it's worth...we have a 1988 900S (non turbo) with the automatic
trans. 250,000 miles on it (we got it at 115,000). it's a great car and the
performance is excellant, tho certainly not to 'turbo 5 speed' levels. The
engine and trans seem to work well together.

If you've been driving a 740GLE ANY SAAB would be a wonderful
difference!

That said, I recommend a 1st generation 9-3 or a late model 900 (96-02)
with a manual transmission.

Everybody likes a turbo, and I am no different. But you can't go wrong
with any of the manual trans combinations here.
