Thanks to all who replied to the 'Newcommer Starting'. It has inspired me to
take on the project. First thing I did was look through service records, and
as it turns out.. the ignition switch has been replaced 2x in the past 2
years: P/N: s4946315 on 5/16/01 and P/N sa4946315 on 6/6/00. Starter (FP
number 88-23-932) replaced on 6/24/00 for $243.36 (new, used? dont know.
but, does says '... replaced with new.'). There is one receipt where i can
find no specifics on what was done, but was charged 230 or 185 for a 35k
interval tuneup. No comments were made on what was done regarding
performance complaints (including intermittent startup). So thats history...

Many have indicated a bad ignition switch, so i researched that a bit online.
Matthew showed me this:
http://www.thesaabsite.com/9000/9000ignitioncomponents.htm
where i found

the ignition switch, but it has a different part number from the ones found
in my invoices. Is the '4085783' number just that stores own number? The
prices on the invoices were also $55-60

Regarding checking currents and such, that requires a tool i do not have.
Fluke makes the best multimeters, i know this much. But, they've got
hundreds of models... I'm looking at a 16 ($116) so far, unless others can
tell me the biggest bang for my buck. As for the current clamps, thats
another 150-200.

John, thanks for the reminder. W/ my old car, theres really very few (almost
nil) elecrtonics that run when the car is off... I forgot this is much
different for newer cars. I've been using the car 'normally' (a few days so
far) to see if it ever poops out. This will have to do until i get a
multimeter to see just how much juice is being used.

My Plan: Drive it. I'm going to see just how inconvenient it is, and its
'characteristics,' until i have a good amount of time to get dirty (school
comes first). Then, get multimeter and check for power going to solenoid.

Another problem: Radiator fluid is leaking (one week and went from middle
between max and min down to about 2 cm in the reserve tank). Havent had time
to see where its comming from. As a quick, easy 'solution', im going to try
those Stop-Leak additives. But first, i'd like to know if this could have an
effect on the turbo (not familiar w/ turbo systems).

Again, thanks all for your help!!!! And please, forgive my snails-paced
progress. I at best can spend a couple hours/wk. (The other hours go to my
scholastic research.)
