>Are there stock wheels of a certain vintage that will bolt on?

Yes, Its been about 10 years since I did this, but..If I remember correctly,
The saab stock alloy wheels that were put on models after the TRX wheels
will fit. I think these were on model years 82-85. They are sometimes
referred to as the 'pie-pan' type wheels or the 'small, 24 hole' type
wheels. If you want something a bit spiffier (I never cared for the 24 hole
type) the 'Fundo' spoked wheels that were put on saab 900s &T 85-87 (I
think)will fit nicely as well. There were two styles and I think they were
referred to as the '15 spoke' and the '18 spoke'... I used the 18 spoke.
SOmething in the back of my mind tells me there was something unique about
the 15 spoke that did not allow them to fit on the 1981 Turbo (which is what
I had).

The one thing that seemed to be unique about the saab hubs from 80-~87 was
the center. Seemed other saab wheels and aftermarket ones didnt have a
large enough hole in the middle of the wheel to accomodate the center of the
hub. Also, the lug pattern of the 80-87 (approximate years because I dont
remember exactly) were different.
As far a steel wheels go, you should be able to find a good supply of them.
Wheels from 1980 - ~87 should fit (again, not quite positive about the
years).

>Finally. is there a used parts yard of choice in the Saab community (beyond
>Saabnet's parts board) particularly in the Washington DC area..

I got my wheels from a place in south carolina (can't think of the name,
sorry). Dennis Sweeney Saab in Ligionier PA (a saab recycler) can probably
fix you up as well.
Goldwing in NY (also a recycler) is a source, but they never have anything I
need, and the one time they did, the price was much higher than the other
places.
Good luck
John
