Intermediate Shaft

I have a problem with my 9000 that I'd like to address to the collective
wisdom of this service. The intermediate driveshafts keeps breaking on my
'92 9000. It's the second one that has broke in two months. The engine
and drivetrain are a '98. It broke under load, both times, in 2nd gear.
They both broke at the splined end that goes into the intermediate CV-joint
cup. Seeing as the '98 engine is the same as an Aero, I'm wondering if the
intermediate shafts differ on Aero's from the '97 CSE's. I ask this
because both of the shafts came out of a '97 CSE with low mileage (about
13k and 20k miles). My Mitchell Collision Estimating Guide only shows two
listings for a manual: one for '86-90 and the other for '91-96 (87 27 000).
Could it be possible that the Aero used a different shaft? And if they're
all the same, then why are mine breaking? The splined end of the shaft
looks like classical fast fracture or fatigue failure. I've never
encountered this before and have never heard of anyone else, either.
What's up? Thanks in advance, Bob La Vergne
