<< Seems like I have not only the same car (1986 900 8v), but exactly the
same problem: It starts just fine in the morning, one crank and off you
go, but after standing several hours, it needs a whole lot longer to
start. >>

If the car in original question is an 8V 900 (guess I missed it), the hard
restarting could be due to a loss in fuel injection 'rest Pressure'. The 8V
engine had the CIS injection, which is a mechanical type in which the fuel
presure opens the injectors and the fuel 'dead heads' at the injectors when
you shut off the engine. The injectors should remain pressurised after the
engine shuts off for a minimum of 'x' minutes (don't remember how long now,
maybe 20+ minutes). If it drops of to quickly the system can become
air-locked (vapor locked?) and it takes quite a bit of cranking to build up
the pressure again. The leakage could be due to leaky injectors or to a
leaky check valve, which is located in the fuel distributor. You need to do
a rest pressure check to see if the pressure is droping off to quickly. Have
the injectors checked for spray pattern and leakage at rest.
