Trionic Computer

I have a 1995 900SET. Occasionally, I find that the car seems to behave
oddly (long cranking, et cetera). After some services, the behaviour
vanishes (without a cause being identified).

After a long drive between Tustin, CA and Santa Barbara, CA (during which I
got 32 MPG with climate control set to 'economy'), I found that the
cranking time got very long (2-3 seconds, compared to ~0.5 seconds
normally). I also noticed that the normal sequence of sounds that one
hears after turing the ignition key to 'On' but before turning it to
'Start' had changed. Before this trip, I typically heard familiar noises
for a few seconds, then silence. After the trip, there was a sustained
whining sound (fuel pump?) that never quieted. Also, I experienced an
episode of misfiring a week later. Even though I had gone back to short
'city' driving style, the cranking continued to be long. This was true
regardless of air temperature, warm versus cold engine and full versus
nearly empty fuel tank.

I took the car in for Oil & Filter this past week (to Saab of Santa Ana)
and had them run some diagnostics (I had thought that it might be fuel
pressure problems). They ran some standard diagnostics, but found nothing
(other than some cracked radiator hoses, which they replaced). They did
not experience a long crank time before starting. When I got into the car,
the crank time was indeed back to nominal values (<1 second). I noticed
however, that my electronics configuration (radio stations, temperature
units, etc) had been lost. The next morning, I noticed that my 'normal
sequence of sounds followed by silence' had returned and that the car
started virtually instantly. The car has started virtually instantly since
then.

So. The question is: has anyone else found that his/her Trionic system
'wanders' from its optimum configuration after some time... and that
perhaps resetting it (or disconnecting the battery?) causes it to revert to
normal operation?

Thanks in Advance.
