Tech 2 or ISAT scan tool time will tell all, but from what I've
experienced, it can be inexpensive. On the other hand, from what I've
heard, it can be expensive.

In my case, I had an intermittent failure on my 95 Aero, and after
much frustration, finally brought it to somebody with a Tech 2 and was
told that it was the 'safety/bleeder valve' (p/n 4015202). This is a
$60 switch on the firewall next to the MAP sensor; it has three hose
connections, one of which is very short and vented to free air, and
one two wire cable connection. The 92 TCS may be very different from
the 95.

I've heard an experience with a 92 9000:

'My syptom was that the car would run good up until 3/4 throttle and then
the TCS would dump into fault mode. This continued for a couple of days
until the TCS degraded to only accepting 1/4 throttle before it would
fault out. There was nothing obvious that would correct the problem and
I had to take the car to the dealer (My least favorite thing to do.).'

This was diagnosed to a bad throttle body motor ($1000+), but luckily,

'Since I had nothing to lose by damaging the throttle motor
assembly I decided to rap on it with a screwdriver handle in an
attempt clean the contact surfaces within the unit. Apparently that
worked and the throttle assembly has been working without a hitch
since.'

Clearly, YMMV.
