Brake and Turn Signal

1986 900, just bought and this problem has to get fixed. Car had radio
stolen very recentlyby someone who didn't show much concern for wiring
in that area of the dash.

Here's the symptom-set:

Turn signals and hazard flashers work normally, UNLESS I press the brake
pedal. When I do that, the inside indicator lights go off, and my
'behind the car' spotter tells me that the flashing stops on the
external lights that were flashing, AND THEY THEN ARE SOLID-ON BUT AT A
VERY DIM LEVEL until I release the brake pedal, and then they start
flashing again normally.

I also notice that when I press the brake pedal, the two 'turn signal
indicators' on the instrument panel light up in unison, but at half
brightness.

Hoping this is just a connector on the wrong pin somewhere, and I
figured that somebody out there might recognize this immediately as
something 'famous.'

Thanks in advance to any help that might be forthcoming.

B.
