Hi Donald,
We have both a 1993 9000 CSE & a 1999 9 5. Here are my
observations:

The 9 5 has much more power than the 9000. The 9 5 has a chassis
definitely more biased to comfort, the 9000 is biased more for spirited
driving. I find the 9 5 mushy, the 9000 taut. The floor mounted ignition
switched has evolved from a sensible safety feature in the 99 & 'classic'
900, to a gimmick in the 9 5; the remote lock fob always getting in the way
when releasing the parking brake, the switch itself in a wart in the center
console that screams 'HEY, LOOK AT ME!!'. Seats seem more comfortable in
the 9 5. I like the Winter/Sport/Normal selective automatic gearbox. The
gearbox itself seems much more robust on the 9 5, though time will tell.
The 9 5 puddle lights seem really cheap, they only illuminate down, the
9000 also included red warning lights for oncoming drivers, the 9 5 only
has reflectors for that purpose.

Basically, if I could put the 9 5 drivetrain in the 9000 I'd be really
happy. Then again, if I could put my 3.5 Maxima drivetrain in either car
I'd be REALLY happy.

Hope this helps.
