Oil Line

Point of information:

Our '99 9-3 sprang an oil leak. It wasn't much. More of a nuisance on the
garage floor than anything else.

After awhile, I decided to begin to check the oil level carefully to ensure
I wasn't losing too much before I could get to the dealer. Strangely, the
oil level on the stick wasn't dropping one iota.

Due for a warranty repair, I asked for a preliminary check up on this oil
leak as I could not identify the source on a visual. Sure enough, the oil
wasn't coming from the engine lube system at all. Turns out the oil lines to
the tranny are an aluminum-steel connection and anyone remotely familiar
with marrying two different types of metal will know these joining systems
are disposed to working loose.

So if you spring an oil leak, don't assume it's from the lube system in the
engine.

Happy Motoring;
