Rear Window Defog

I have a 91 900 Convertible in which the rear window (and outside
mirror) defogger has stopped working. The dash light comes on when the
button is pressed, but it won't stay on. I thought it was the relay
(under the rear seat), but I bought a new one and that didn't help. I
suppose the new relay could be bad, but at $38/per I don't want to get
another just to try it if someone has any other suggestions.

I don't have the schematic, so I don't know what voltages should appear
on what pins of the relay socket. The relay itself includes some
electronics, so I don't to randomly apply twelve volts to the realy pins
to see if that works. If someone knows how to check this system out,
I'd appreciate hearing from you.
