Been there, done that. First, resist any temptation to wire anywhere other
than the cigarette lighter circuit - it's fused and wired for a rather high
amperage device, so it has plenty of power capacity for your needs.

Second, secure a suitable 'crimp connector' and crushing tool. There are
such connectors which are essentially a crimpable version of our old
favorite, the 'wire nut'. (that's the black plastic mini-thimble thing
generally used for home wiring. Why not use a small wire nut? The
automotive environment contains vibration and temperature variations far
beyond what home wiring is exposed to.)

Third - I've found that the easiest way to remove the ash tray body (to get
to the wiring behind) is to also remove the radio housing just below
it. Pull the radio (make sure you have the code), use a hook made from a
paper clip (or a hook tool if you have one) to pull down the locking tabs
on the radio housing, and side it out. Now you have front and back access
to pull the ash tray housing. There's two wires attached to the cigarette
lighter plug (the black ground and the colored 'hot' wire). Cut the wires,
strip them a bit, twist with the power leads for your devices, and crimp
over them.
You can drill a small hole in the ash tray to run the accessory leads
through. You might also want to install in-line connectors so you can
remove your devices and bundle up the lead inside the ash tray.

Finally, take lots of pictures during your project and send them to NINES
along with a write up of what you've done!
