The shift-up light in general, only comes on 'early' if you are not
loading the motor. If you have your foot in it, flat to the floor, it will
come on at 5000-5500 RPM, reminding you to shift before the rev limiter
kicks in.

As others said, it's for ECONOMY, not performance.
