Actually, it's not an idea without merit. It allows for extra utility
space under the nice, sturdy, plywood trunk floor panel. Want to talk
about retarded design, then how about the French habit of hanging the spare
in an upside-down recess in the trunk floor OUTSIDE the vehicle. I last
saw that on the '95 Renault Clio. How's that for LAME !

There are hundreds-of-thousands (if not millions) of E-class (W124) and
S-class (W126) Mercedes cars running all over the world with an uspide-down
spare in the bottom of their trunk. I wouldn't be surprised if these DO
get checked during routine MB dealer services/inspections, because MB cares
a little bit more about providing high-quality dealer service.

SAAB is such an innovator when it comes to intelligent and functional
design. As such, I am surprised that this type of valve-extender hose did
not come as STANDARD equipment on every upside-down-spare SAAB. I could
excuse the oversight if they at least offered it as an optional accessory,
but I guess that's not the case. I will absolutely look for one the next
time I visit an auto parts store.
