That person is an idiot. The 9-5 has an excellent (for an OEM) sound
system. I assume you have properly adjusted the front-rear balance (called
fader). Compare the sound to any other 9-5 on the lot!

First instinct is to follow the owner's manual. To refine that, consider
the OE tire size (215-55-16). Multuply the tire cross section (215 mm) by
the aspect ration (55%) to abtain the tire height (118 1/4 mm). Add 12.5
(you are switching to an inch smaller wheel diameter, or a half inch
smaller radius). Pick a desired aspect ratio (65 is good for serious snow
tires, 70 is better) and divide that into 131 to obtain the desired cross
section. This will give you the same OD. Double check the load rating.
continuing, 131/65%=201 1/2. So 205/65/15 is the closest match, but will
be slightly larger in diameter. 195-65-15 is a good match too. For a 70
aspect ratio, 131/70%=187, so 185/70/15 is also a potential fit, and would
be best for very heavy snow (narrower is better). It would handle like a
barge on dry pavement, though.185-65-15 is both too small in diameter and
has too low a load rating for a 9-5.
