Intermittent Electrical Death
Posted by alan.sullivan - http://saabnet.com/tsn/forms/e.php (more from alan.sullivan - http://saabnet.com/tsn/forms/e.php) on Mon, 24 Feb 2003 22:40:40

Twice in the last month the 1994 9000 Aero has experienced a complete
electrical death during starting attempts. In each instance, when the key
is turned from Lock to the Start position, there are no warning and caution
lights in the instrument panel and no response from the starter circuit. In
both instances, the car resumed normal functioning on the third or fourth
turn of the key. However, once started, the car's trip computer and clock
and radio are scrambled/dropped code/lost track of time, indicating a
complete break in the power to those items. The battery is relatively new
and post-start battery voltage is over 10 volts. Charging immediately goes
back to the normal range (over 13 volts). Of course, I can't duplicate it.

This will be a devil to troubleshoot, as it occurs so intermittently. Has
anyone had a similar experience and if so, what component was identified as
the culprit?

Thanks,

Alan Sullivan
