9-3 Upgrades

Hi All,

With only 500 km on my silver 9-3S 5dr/5sp, its time to do some upgrades.
In fact I only waited 20 km before swapping the 15 inch wheels for 16 inch
5 spoke Mille Miglia rims from the Tire Rack and put 215/50 R16 BF Goodrich
g-force KDW tires. Very Viggen like but much cheaper. The tires are noisier
relative to the stock MXV4s but the grip in wet and dry is absolutely
phenomenal. The computer can be programmed (at your dealer) for the 1.7%
difference in tire circumference from stock if you care. Tomorrow, I drive
to Toronto to get my B&G springs (1.3 inch drop and higher spring
constants) and Koni's (adjustable of course) installed at Accelerated
Response Motoring.

Now some questions. What is the difference between the S and the SE that
gives the SE the extra horsepower ? It isn't the intercooler, which is
exactly the same part number. I checked on the cars I test drove. It isn't
the air filter box which has a wider intake than the pre '00 cars on both S
and SE (Note the '00 is a NLEV car unlike the '99 9-3 or NG 900 and there
are a number of plumbing and wiring differences under the hood, including a
new boost control solenoid, drive by wire throttle etc.). The intake
manifold is plastic and seems rather narrow compared to the air cleaner
intake. Is it choked down relative to the SE ? Is the turbo the same
(couldn't check that, it is under the heat shield) ? I assume Abbot can
solve it if it is a computer issue.

Anybody Abbotized a '00 9-3 yet ? Any comments ?

Also it would seem that with a drive by wire throttle that traction control
would have been easy on the 9-3. Why didn't they do it and how horribly
complex would it be to add (the 9-5 has it, at least on certain models).
