Eratic Idle

I have recently been having a problem with my 91, 9000CD, Auto

Once it warms up, if I shift into neutral or Park, the idle is eratic,
almost wanting to stall and there is a strange smell like oil leaking on to
the exhaust manifold.

Have checked all liquid levels and all are okay, and, once in gear, engine
idels fine

About 14 months ago I had to change ignition module, and am noticing that
first thing in the morning there is a slight hesitation just once about 5
minutes after I start off.

One other thing, how dows one tighten up the colapsable stearing?

Mine keeps slacking off and the wheel moving in. Quite disconcerting as one
is doing 130kph along the highway

Any help would be appreciated
