The lower bolt on which the alternator swivels has to be removed in = order
to get the alternator off its mounting bracket. This moves in a straight =
line towards the firewall but there is not enough room to remove the bolt in
= that direction. You have an alternative. Under the alternator, on the =
mounting bracket, is a 7mm cap Allen screw. This needs to be removed. Then
the = left cap Allen screw, which is at the terminal end of the alternator
swivel screw, needs to be removed. Then slacken the hexagonal screw on the
top = of the bracket. This should then allow you to angle the bracket with
the alternator in a downward position, allowing the alternator swivel screw =
to be removed as you have created more space between the firewall and
alternator. If you don't want to go through all this, go back to stage = 1,
push the bolt as far through the bracket towards the firewall as you = can,
saw it off with a hacksaw, and push the remaining part of the screw =
through. Then get a new screw when you want to remount the alternator. Once
the alternator is removed, this makes access to the Allen screws a lot =
easier. Good luck! I've done a few this way.
