Re: Timing Chain Replacment Cost

my advice is to find a mechanic with the correct tool to do the job
without pulling the engine. The procedure is to swedge the old timing
chain to the new one and feed the new one through by turning the engine
over slowing (usually by bumping the starter). Once the old timing chain
is fed through, the new chain is swedged back together for life in its new
home.

As long as everything is done correctly, there is no problem. I had the
timing chain on my 1989 900S replaced (at around 205,000 miles - long
overdue) in just this fashion; total cost including the chain was around
$250.00.

Just a thought.
