I would suspect, based on it running well, that the fuel accumulator is
shot.

The FA maintains a 'rest' pressure in the CIS injection. Without this
pressure, the fuel pump takes longer to build up the 70(or so) PSI needed
to open the fuel injectors.

The FA is located in the vicinity of the fuel tank. It has an inlet and an
outlet on the same end of the can. It shoudl be somewhere forward of the
tank, on the right side of the car.
