The first thing to check is that every ground connection is good - the one
at the antenna, the one at the radio head, and the separate amp(s). On my
'97, replacing the antenna wire (not a job for the faint of heart - the
tech had the driver's seat on the floor - of the garage ) cured an
intermittent noise problem. Also check that the wiring from the radio head
to the amp is not picking up noise from other wires in the bundle. Only
after all that checks out should you start plugging in different radio parts.
