I am calling from europe, greece. My name is Savvas. I am
a SAABNET member. I have an old photo on MEMBERS GALLERY. I sent
on the past many of my family SAAB Maniacs pictures. Mine project is
a 900 Turbo NoAPC 8valve 1981-82 model which was in an awful
condition. It all started when my twin brother was getting married and
the night before he felt with a 900 GL 1979-80model carburator of a
bridge and with the roof of the car.He was with his -not yet- wife
and a small girl.The height was 5 meters.They didn't heart a bit.That
dame car has a roll cage, roll bar, it's a miracle. From that moment i
forgot the Honda, nissan, bmw, audi, and other transpotation vehicles.I
love my life, my family, so we all drive saabs, used ones but well
maintained. I don't care now for Kilometers per liter, 0-100kmh
time, and other. I know i have more possibilities to be alive after a
big accident, cause of this old fashioned, 900. Now my family has :
Savvas :900 Turbo NoAPC 8valve 1981-82 5dr Green color
Makis: 900 TurboAPC 16valve 1985-86 SPG wheels 5dr gray color
Father:9000 Turbo APC 1988 model, dark blue
Whole Car parts: 900 GL 1979-80 green color
Whole Car parts:900 GLi 1984-85 white color
I am a god damn maniac.
The reason i wrote you is about a technical matter i don't know.
Mine 900 Turbo NoAPC 8valve 1981-82 5dr is in mine opinion
perfectly restored and power tuned. It has:
8valve low compression 7.2:1 turbo
350.000 km
New cylinderhead which was the same from the 900GLi 1984-85 with
hardened seats.
New Turbo the old one GARETT T3 brake on the exhaust propeller. The
new one is MITSUBISHI TE-05 with bigger aircoming from 40 mm to 45
mm. Also new exhaust manifold because the old one broke to many
little points.
The exhaust pipes are new 60mm diameter all the way down and the rear
muffler has changed with a hand made free-flow which is positioned as
in 16valve engines.
The K-jetronic or CIS bosch, needed new injector, good from
6cylinders like, fuel distributor, tuned fuel pressure regulator.
Turbo pressure bleed valve regulator has been put in the radio
console, to adjust the pressure which is a little bit before the red
line.
Battery on the trunk because of the intercooler.
New intercooler from Renault 5 GT turbo modified, placed instead of
the battery with heat protection and big computer fan,and 63 mm all
the way turbine collars.
New front and rear engine seals.
New 5-speed transmission from the 900 GLi 1984-95 model.
new wheel mounts.

If you had drive this car when i took it with everything broken, no
transmission, no brakes, noisy hubs, old TRX wheels, and many many
problems you would believe it is the same car.
Now, i am proud to say that mine 8valve noAPC turbo is faster than my
brothers 900 16valve turbo 85-86 . we had many time to take that
message on the freeway , even from stopped or from running.

The only serius problem i have is that i have put VDO gauges for
Volt,Oil pressure,Oil temp.
For the VDO oil pressure metering unit which is mounted near the
water expansion tank and is connected with small tube with the
engine oil filter mount, it has also the warning pressure light on
it. The oil when the engine start ups has to do about one meter on
this tube to make this light off.
THE PROBLEM: when my car has been sitting for more than 1 day, i
start up, and with 1000rpm the pressure red warning light is on, and
VDO pressure has no reading,it may take 20 sec or even 1 minute
to go off and VDO reading 5 bar (or psi). When he engine is sitting
for 3-6 hours it starts and the light goes off immidiately and
pressure readings 5 and on . Also the pressure never gets lower of
1.75 even at 800 rpm.
When it is working, it's working perfect, normal pressures, but why
does it delay so much for the red oil light to go off ? And why when
it has stayed off for 1 day and more?
The oil is MOTUL V300 15-w50 competition and Slick-50 every 2nd oilchange.
