Clutch Slave Cylinder

I posted this on the TSN BB, but didn't quite get the info I was looking
for. I THINK the answer is that the slave was already on its way out,
but the timing sure is suspicious. I haven't resolved with the dealer
yet how much I'm going to have to pay for what work

The 'brake fluid' light on my 91 900 was coming on intermittently and
the fluid level was low (but above the 'min' mark). No noticeable
symptoms in performance or pedal feel from either brakes or clutch. So I
took it in, told them to check things out and while they were at it, to
flush & refill the brake system (it seemed about time). The work was
done on Xmas eve (in rather a hurry, it seemed to me), no probs reported
(other than a 'note' about an 'internal' turbo oil leak!?), and the car
was left for me to pick up. When I went to get it, the clutch pedal had
no resistance. On examination, a puddle of hydraulic fluid was under the
car, and I'm told I need a new slave cylinder.

The clutch slave cylinder on my 91 900 went under suspicious circumstances
(it seemed fine until the tech flushed and pressure-bled the hydraulic
system). Questions:
1. Now that the slave is completely gone, can it be repaired/replaced
without taking the trans/clutch apart? That is, how big a job is it?
2. If the tech had noticed a leak and repaired/replaced the slave cylinder
while it was still capable of actuating the clutch, would the job have been
any easier?

The bottom line is how much all this is going to cost. I have get a new
slave cylinder. If that's going to involve taking the trans or clutch
apart, I might as well replace the clutch, pressure plate, and t/o bearing
at the same time.
