Serpentine Belt

I am in the process of putting my third ContiTech serpentine belt on my '=
94 9000 CS this year. The last one I got free because it only lasted 30 d=
ays. (both the idler pulleys were replaced at that time.) All the other p=
ulleys are in-line and have no noticeable play in the bearings. The belt =
seems to fail by splitting in the long direction and then jamming behind =
one of the idlers causing sudden loss of rotation and snapping. All the e=
xpected results for the driver--loss of power steering, coolant circulati=
on, battery light on dash. Am I the only one having this problem? =20
I have seen reference to a Goodyear Gatorback belt, but called several so=
urces and all offered only the ContiTech belt. I bought two of these, but=
feel that I dare not drive this car on a long trip without carrying all =
tools needed for an on road change.
Thanks in advance
