I recently purchased a 1990 Saab 900 5-speed that had sat wrecked with light
front-end damage for several years. I've taken care of most of its problems,
but it still has one that I'd like for you guys with all the manual
transmission experience to comment on. (Most of my Saab experience has been
with an automatic)

When I let up on the gas with the car in gear, it first lurches slightly
forward (like you would expect), but then throws me back in my seat, then
lurches forward again, then back, repeating this cycle again and again until
I push in the clutch. Makes me look like a real neophyte! The engine speed
is constant throughout this little excursion. It seems reasonable to me to
think that I probably have a worn engine mount, but I really don't know.
Before I go to the trouble of replacing all three, is there a way to test an
engine mount before replacing it? Is there something else I should be
looking for?

Thank you in advance. This list has been a wonderful source of information
throughout the years I've been reading it!
