You could double check the cable and connections, too. (and, don't forget
the ground connection between the engine and the battery). Easy way to
check the connections - run the starter motor (to start the car, for
example) then shut it off and feel the connectors. If there's excess
resistance, the connectors will feel hot.

I had a 99 (or was it a 900?) that cranked slow from day 1, which I
attributed to a 'low output OE battery.' When the starter finally packed
it up completely and got replaced with a rebuilt, the difference was
astounding. So yes, slow cranking can be a symptom of a decrepit starter
motor as well as a weak battery or bad connections.
