Fair question. I appreciate both the jist and the jest of your comment, as
I realize that taken at face value my comments may seem hypocritical.
While I could (rudely) ask how your Hyundai is running, I would prefer to
clarify the situation.

I live in Sicily, a large island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea,
currently belonging to Italy. The pace of life differs from that of North
America, and the daily focus is not on work, but on family. Getting parts
for my cars locally is difficult and time consuming. For example, I broke
a window, and it took me 3 weeks to get a replacement from the local SAAB
dealer. I also just replaced the serpentine belt on the 1994 900, but it
took the same dealer 3 (business) days to get the parts. Before you ask,
the next closest dealer is three hours away, and UPS does not deliver in
Sicily, nor does NAPA have an outlet store. As an added problem, my cars
are US spec, not European. I order most of my parts stateside; from the
time I send a check via the mail and receive the parts the same way,
normally four weeks have transpired. Please do not lose sleep in this
case, however, as the majority of the replacement parts have recently
arrived. I would at this time like to thank again and publicly Townsend
Imports for all of their help.

I feel that I do maintain my cars well, however some things like a power
steering pump can be hard to predict. As surely you will question why I
feel that I maintain my cars well, my answer is that they have never
stranded me anywhere. Proof in the pudding, so to speak.

It is precisely due to my current situation that I have really come to
appreciate the robustness of the SAAB design. One thing you forgot to
quote in your above notation, however, was my original quote that the
convertible still pushes BMW's out of the way on the Autostrade, despite
her faults.

I hope that you are satisfied with this response, but if you have any other
questions, please feel free to contact me. Now lets get back to talking
about SAABs.
