Time For Service & Stuck Cabrio Latches & Emblems

My '97 SE Turbo convertible is showing a 'Time for Service' message on the
information display, and also, 'check latches.' These messages started
showing up at around the same time but I can't swear that they're related.
The latches were stuck recently (impossible to loosen or tighten the
L-shaped screws by hand, I had to use pliers).

What would cause the latch screws (the parts that hook the top into the top
frame of the windshields and holds the roof down) to get stuck? Is there any
downside to using pliers to turn the screws?

Could loose latch screws result in a 'Time for Service' message? The car has
had its oil change less than 3,000 miles ago and was inspected inside and
out by a former Saab mechanic even more recently than that.

My used Saab 1997 convertible is missing the silver relief letters that are
supposed to be on the rear (on the trunk lid). I have bought these small
metal signs, also used, but am wondering how to attach them to the body.
There are no openings for screws, and something tells me superglue won't do
the trick -- besides, the letters have a hollow shape.

Also, the blue/silver/gold/red Saab hood emblem, in good shape when I bought
the car half a year ago, has lost all its paint, so now it looks like I have
a silver dollar stuck to my hood... What could cause the emblem paint to
disappear? How easy is it to find another emblem and to swap it out?

Thanks,

Rogier van Bakel
