Re: Removing Drain Plug

I have come across some of these tranny drain plugs that were VERY tight.
The C900 5-speeds have them, as well as the C900 automatics (for final-drive
oil). I must say that I've never sheared a Craftsman 1/2_to_3/8' square
drive adapter on any of them.

If I had, I would have taken a medium to large-sized pipe wrench to it -
with the 5-foot pipe. If you are not sure exactly what a pipe wrench is,
pay a visit to your favorite hardware store plumbing department (Home Depot,
Sears, Ace, etc.).

With a pipe wrench, you can grip the smooth round surface (approx. 1.5' in
diameter) of the plug head that protrudes about 1/4' down from the tranny
case. The teeth in the wrench will bite into the plug, and the harder you
turn, the harder they'll bite. There is no way in this world that a tranny
drain plug can escape the wrath of this tool+pipe... It works admirably
well on stripped C900 oil drain plugs too. 9000 oil drain plugs are
somewhat more tricky though.

Make sure you are turning anti-clockwise to loosen ! (regular threads)
