Here here.  I fully agree. Then again, living in Belgium (or anywhere in
Europe for that matter), our gasoline prices at the moment are about $1 per
liter, which comes to roughly $3.8 per gallon. If you think $2 is the end
of the world...  But I must say that all the Saabs that I have owned are
consistently more economical to drive than any comparable car of its power,
weight and size.  The ONLY exceptions are diesel engines, which in Europe
have attained impossible feats and frugality, especially the VW-Audi
group's engines. My wife has an Audi A3 (model not available in the USA,
but similar in size to a VW Golf), and on normal road driving (at 40-50
mph) it takes slightly over 4.1 L per 100 kms, which equates to about 57
mpg.  And it's still comfortable, speedy, fairly quiet (no truck engines
these), and the torque is incredible.  Saab is developing the SVC engine to
achieve similar ends, reduce consumption as much as possible.  In fact,
there is a Saab 9.3 TiD diesel available in Europe (don't know in the USA),
and it is (as always) powerful, frugal, and fun to drive too...  The engine
comes from Opel (GM daughter also), and is a 2.2 L engine with 115 hp.
