I believe thay all work like that on Saabs; my '86 900S does that too. I
find it useful for toll booths mostly. However, I believe that is is more a
safety feature than a convenience/useful feature. If the button could 'roll'
the window back up without holding it, you could potentially catch your
fingers or part of your arm between the glass and teh door frame, crushing
them/it.
I'm surprised that it works that way on the Toyota, I would think that
(here in the USofA) OSHA would have flagged that as a safety probelm a long
time ago.

As an aside, I thought that it actually worked by having an additional
position on the switch, IE, if you only push it forward a bit, it'll only
operate while you've got it depressed, push it all the way forward, and it'll
retract fully without holding the button. Taht was my impression.

BTW, on my '86 900S, the auto window retraction only works on the driver
side, not on the passenger side. BBTW, that feature stopped working about a
year ago, I wonder what happened
