The Saab 9x, debuted at the Frankfurt Auto show and now making the 
rounds at successive auto shows in Europe and the U.S. in the coming 12 
months, looks awesome: a 2+2 roadster as a 3rd model in the Saab line, 
designed to compete with the Porsche Boxster and Audi TT, employing a 
twin-turbine all-aluminum V6 3 liter 300 hp motor, projected 0-60 mph in 
5.8 seconds, plus up to 87.6 cu ft of cargo space, depending on which 
passenger seats are folded down.  It's only a concept car but according 
to reports in Auto Week (Nov 12, 2001, p. 23), Bob Lutz, GM's authority 
who approves new projects, liked what he saw: 'Great proportion.  Good 
stance.  I love it.'  If all goes according to plans, the 9x is to show 
up in 2004 as a 2005 model.  The current issue of Car and Driver says 
some variant of the prototype will likely emerge, and Auto Week 
(11/12/01, p. 25) reported that Lutz called back the Saab designers, 
after seeing the 9x for the first time at the Frankfurt show, and 'was 
already suggesting clever production ideas to make the car even cooler 
and bring it to market faster.'
