Pushing Gears

Sorry if this is a naive question (I've essentially only driven SUV's and
am new to Saabs), but I can find no information in the Saab manual about
how much 'sporty' driving my '97 Saab 900 SE Turbo convertible can handle.
In my other car, I'm used to shifting into fourth at about 40 mph and into
fifth at about 50-plus, but I've noticed that even with 185 horsepower
under the hood, the Saab doesn't have much extra power when accelerating
quickly ('quickly' is the operative word here), in fifth, from, say, 55 to
70. So on a good road, I'm inclined to punch it into fourth gear at 50 and
into fifth at 65 or 70. As long as the tachometer doesn't hit the 5000 rpm
red zone (and it never goes much over 3500 rpm, actually), is this
considered well within the performance parameters of the car? Can I push it
even further? Or would I be shortening the turbo engine's life?

Thanks,
