Instrument Panel

I've been having some issues with the instrument gauges failing and spiking
on my '94 900S. It's been getting progressively worse for a couple of
months, to the point now where the gauges are 'dead' more often than they
are 'alive'. I lose all gauges, all lights (except the SRS, which has been
on for about 3 years for a faulty steering wheel coil), and there is
absolutely no connection with anything else in the car (engine speed, gear,
SID Black Panel display, head lights, pounding on the dash, etc.). Also,
with the odometer 'dead', the kilometres are not counted. I've also noticed
that when they are 'alive', the fuel gauge sometimes reads about 1/4 less
than I know is in there - but I suspect that's a different issue (one of
many...).

So far, according to research and feedback, suspect components are the MIU
(instrument panel), ECU, ignition switch, or a bad ground. I've had
everything apart and reseated connectors and such with no impact, and
grounds all look good. I'm leaning towards ECU because of some driveability
issues I've been experiencing, but ignition switch sounds 'sensible' as
well...

I'd be interested in any feedback. Many people seem to have the problem,
but I haven't seen anything documenting a definitive fix. I was willing to
live with it when it was extremely intermittent, but it's happening far too
often now.

Thanks;
Scott.
