I am still looking for the problem I described (not clearly enough) in post
#16280. My 1988 9000S at 254,000 miles has developed a 'thunk' which appears
upon braking, acceleration, or turning, especially at higher 'g' force.
This is severe enough that I am not driving the car regularly.

I have re-checked both A-arm thrust bushings, and replaced. One was bad.
I have replaced the lower motor mounts with solid ones -- one was separating
and the other was swollen with oil. This has tightened things up, but my
search goes on. I cannot wiggle the wheels, which would seem to indicate it
is not ball joints, but those are over 100,000 miles old now.

Any tips on how to best check tie rod ends, front struts, and strut upper
bearings would be appreciated. I have checked and tightened most every
subrame bolt I can see -- any bad actors that are not very visible? Because
of the 'shift' I can feel when cornering, it must either deflect a wheel with
side loading or else actually shift weight (thus my thought that it was a
motor mount). What symptoms will a cracked anti-roll bar produce? I
haven't dismounted this to check the condition of the bar itself under the
frame bushes.
