Warranty Repair Log Access

I'm currently test-driving a few used 9000s (primarily turbos, pref 91-92)
in search of a replacement for my trusty '85 900T. When I looked at a '94
Aero (drool, but it was gone before my mechanic could examine it) at a Saab
dealership, the salesman was able to print me out a comprehensive log of
warranty repairs on the vehicle.

I'd love to be able to get the same warranty log for cars I'm looking at
through other sources, but how? Does anyone other than authorized
dealerships have access to this log, or are dealers typically willing to
run VINs for customers under the theory that they might get future repair
work?
