I wrote once before when I picked up my '99 9-3 coupe.  So far, the car has
been great and I like it much more than my previous '95 900s coupe.  The
build quality and features are quite an improvement.

However, I would like some feedback on a recent problem.  Every so often,
when I put the car in reverse, the gearbox will grind.  I seem to remember
another person on the list having this problem and having the transmission
replaced.  (BTW, I have the 5-speed)  This morning, something strange
happened.  I turned the car on and could not get it out of reverse.  I
finally smacked the shifter and it popped out and I did not have the
problem again.  On the forward gears, I have noticed that this gearbox is a
little more stodgy than my '95 and sometimes it will refuse a gear unless I
am extremely precise.  TO the person who had a replacement already,  I
would be interested in a more detailed description of the symptoms and I
would also be interested in hearing the comments of anyone else who has
this problem with their 9-3.  I am taking the car in next Tuesday for a
quick check, so we will see.
