Door Latches

Well, I finally got around to going after the little things on my '88
9000T that needed to be done. Replaced a burned out right rear door
latch motor, hood shocks, etc.

My left rear door operates normally from the outside handle, the lock
operates both electrically and by hand, but I can't open the door with
the INTERIOR handle. It's just like as if the child safety lever is in
the down position: the interior handle/latch moves normally, but the
door won't open.

I took the panel off and looked at the thing. The long actuator rod
seems to be working properly, and if I depress the child safety lever,
operating the interior handle feels just like it should: no movement
of the 'stuff' in the latch mechanism. With the child safety lever in
the 'off' position, operating the interior handle 'feels' like it's
moving parts around in the latch, but the door doesn't budge.

Can't seem to figure out what to look for - can anyone help? Already
tried heavy doses of lithium grease. No change. FWIW, the three
Torx screws holding the latch mechanism to the door seem pretty
much impossible to budge even with repeated applications of
penetrating oil.

TIA for any ideas!

Cheers --- Phil Matt
