I installed a xenon lighting system in my 2000 9-5 Aero shortly after I got
the car. The improvement is worth it. The answer to your question is.....
yes the electronics are completely diffferent. The xenon lights require an
ignitor which produces about 3,000 volts for a moment to 'fire' the bulbs;
then, approximately 350 volts is required to keep the bulbs lit.

You can install a kit in your car for about $600. Here's a url for one
site... http://www.hids4less.com. Note
that on the 94 900 installation of

the xenon kit will result in the loss of high beam functionality. On SAABs,
xenon kits work best on models (eg.: 9-5 and 9000) which have two
systems,one for high and one for low beam.
