I don't know anything about Saab convertible tops, but my wife has a BMW =
Z3 that periodically needs waterproofing. My understanding is that the =
waterproofing doesn't affect whether the top leaks, but helps prevent =
mildew and staining of the top.

People on the Z3 message board recommend several products. There's a =
Porsche spray waterproofing called Tequipment that people recommend, but =
it requires masking the paint and rear glass. BMW sells another spray =
product that it OEM'd from Autosol, available from Bavarian Auto (www.bavau=
to.com). The company that makes the top material for the Z3 recommends a =
spray call 303 High Tech Fabric Guard (www.303-products.com). Many people =
(me included) use a marine canvas waterproofing called Starbrite, which is =
painted on, not sprayed, and can be done with minimal or no masking. =
Starbrite is available at most marine supply stores.
