The answer is NO. I just bought an 89 9000 Turbo this past July and have
the same problem. You'll get used to it. When I start my car I do three
things.
1. Start the engine
2. Right away press the econ button
3. Then press the #1 fan speed button.
This is the only way I can avoid the daily hurricane force blast in my 9000.
Your last option is to buy a newer generation 9000 that has an OFF button
and a default mode. But why would you want a newer one - it's these little
annoying things that makes your car special!
