We have a 9-5 wagon as our sole family (2 adults and 2 toddlers) vehicle (I
commute on a motorcycle) and it serves our needs well. You will not,
however be able to fit more than 5 adults safely (only 5 belts.) You will
also be pressed for space with two adults, two kids, a dog, and luggage.
We bought a Yakima car-top box for extra storage on long trips and it works
great. As for hauling 'tons of stuff', we handle that with a trailer hitch
and a simple flatbed utility trailer. So the 9-5 can be a minivan
alternative, works for us, but it is not going to be able to do everything
you minivan does.
