Shift Lock

The shift lock mechanism on my 1999 9-5 seems to be developing a serious
attitude problem. It works when it wants to, usually when the service
manager for the local Saab dealer is operating it. 
Normally, when you step on the brake with the transmission in Park, the
lock releases (you can hear it), allowing you to select a gear.
Sometimes, however, it doesn't. It happens very sporadically, with no
discernible pattern. And ambient conditions don't seem to matter: Hot,
cold, uphill, downhill, hand on gearshift, hand off gearshift...it
doesn't matter. 
The dealer rep has not been able to duplicate the problem (he's had the
car 3 different times), so doesn't seem inclined to believe that there
is a problem. And unless he can get it to malfunction, he is not willing
to do anything to try to fix it. Instead, he seems to think I am some
kind of moron. I may be, but I restore cars as a hobby, so I do know
which end of the screwdriver to stick in his eye...
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
