Either:

a. Bad or wrong bearings

or,

2. Improper installation.

Those wheel bearings should be good for 100/150k miles...

my best thoughts so far center on the possiblity of the engine/transmission
assembly being slightly off center or poorly mounted. (perhaps a bad
trans/engine mount-- that is hard to see the condition of-- is letting the
assembly lean on corners, pressing the shaft out of place ??? or something
similar ?)

ill post if i learn something difinitive and hope you might do the same

thanks

Sufficient torque must be used when installing the wheel bearing. I did =
the same thing myself when I replaced the bearing TWICE on my 1990 9000, =
and they only lasted a few months. Then I looked up the specs and found =
I was not even coming close to the correct spec. I assume that =
under-torquing allows the bearing to come apart eventually. The third =
bearing was torqued to specs and is still working well after 200K miles.

I remember several (15+) years ago Dodge Omnis and Plymouth Horizons
experienced frequent and repeated wheel bearing failure. The cause was
traced to a poor or missing battery ground connection somewhere. Evidently,
electricity was arcing through the bearing and creating tiny spot welds
which were immediately sheared when the car was moving. This destroyed the
bearing races and rollers (balls?). Check the bad bearings for signs of
this.

Improper torque of the hub nut upon reassembly. The hub nut needs to
be torqued to 220 foot-lbs (or so, don't have the exact figure
handy). Failure to do this means insufficient bearing preload, and no
real support for the bearing. This figure should not be guessed at,
but it should be read with a proper torque wrench (i.e. wailing on it
with an impact gun IS NOT sufficient)

Also, Saab recommends that the nut be replaced EVERY TIME it is
removed. If that is not done, then it's possible that the CV will
loosen up inside the bearing.
