Bad Throw-Out Bearing

I have a '91 900T Conv, lo miles (65K) that has developed an
intermittent chirping noise that seems to come from the front of the
engine. The noise happens in gear or in neutral, but stops immediately
with just a tap on the clutch. Once I've stopped the noise by tapping
the clutch it does not return for a while -- sometimes soon, sometimes
as much as 30 minutes or more. I've never noticed the noise when the
car is cold, but merely waiting until it's up to operating temperature
is no guarantee that the noise will begin. The tone and volume of the
noise does not seem to vary with RPM, unless it is to get quieter at
higher RPM.

I took the car in, but naturally it refused to make any noise for the
tech, despite trying for two days. On the other hand, I was told that
one of the front motor mounts was worn/broken (I got various stories on
this from the service writer), so I had that replaced.

I suspect the throw-out bearing only because the noise stops when the
clutch pedal is depressed. I don't have any other noticeable symptoms
of a bad clutch. From this vague description, does the collective
wisdom here think that it is the t/o bearing starting to go? If so, can
I assume that eventually the noise will occur more frequently -- perhaps
constantly -- so I can get it diagnosed before it seizes completely? Or
could this sound have something to do with the turbo (the one time I
caught the sound with the car stopped and the hood opened, I still
couldn't really pinpoint where it was coming from).

A clutch replacement is not something I want to do merely on suspicion.
Should I do anything at this point other than wait?
