No other units are compatible with the wiring harness. With the old style
radios, the amp was on the back of the radio housing, and you could snip
off the connector and rewire it to the new radio. I don't think you can do
that with the later radios. So you are into a rewiring job.

What you want is to drive the existing power amps, which are tuned to the
car. They are twisted pair, so I don't know if the usual 'line level'
outputs are low enough impedance to prevent noise problems. I'd suggest
finding a unit with both front and back 'line level' outputs and giving it
a try. If the existing wiring then picks up noise, your choice is to run
the speaker leads back to the radio head or buy all new power amps and
install them back where Saab did.

In either case, I like either the 'Kenwood' or 'Pioneer', because they make
a reasonably priced in-dash DIN size CD player which is matched to and
compatible with their reasonably priced cassette radios..

If you like the idea of paying a lot more, you can get (or, a couple of
years ago, you could get) an Alpine CD Tuner which interfaced with a DIN
sized cassette deck/sound processor. The sound processor had lots of bells
and whistles, EQ, Surround Modes, Echos, and a nice spectrum display.
